Ways to Save

Latest Newsletter: Reduce Your Energy APPetite!

One easy way to infuse energy efficiency into your daily routine is energy-related smart phone applications. From consumption monitoring and appliance calculators to collectible green tips, a variety of apps are available to help you better manage your energy usage. And, these apps are just the tip of the iceberg in terms of energy innovation.

Winter Energy Saving Tips

Burrrr. There are five key places to look for home energy savings during these cold winter months: sealing and insulating; heating efficiently; changing lights; powering down home electronics; and looking for the Energy Star on new products.

Advanced Meters: Less Energy Use - Lower Bills

Advanced metering systems provide new ways for customers to manage their energy consumption and help lower their electric bills. Global research has shown that customers using advanced meters consumed 5-10% less energy.

Shop Around

Electric bills are calculated by multiplying the amount of the electricity you use (measured in kilowatt hours) by the rate you pay per kilowatt hour (in cents). Just like you shop around for car insurance, you can shop around to find the company, prices and product that best fits your electricity needs.

Rebates & Incentives

Texas Appliance Rebates

Texas Comptroller Susan Combs recently announced the state will use approximately $23 million in federal stimulus funds for a mail-in rebate program for consumers who purchase certain energy efficient household appliances. The U.S. Department of Energy approved the rebates for consumers who buy eligible Energy Star appliances and replace the same type of old appliance that’s functional. The Texas program will also offer an incentive to recycle old appliances. Learn more.

Energy Audit Rebates

A home energy audit is the first step to assess how much energy your home consumes and to evaluate what measures you can take to make your home more energy efficient. An audit will show you problems that may, when corrected, save you significant amounts of money over time.

State and Municipal Rebates

Homeowners can take advantage of state and municipal government tax credits and utility rebates.

Federal Tax Credits

If you're thinking about adding insulation, replacing windows, buying a new air conditioner, furnace or water heater, or even adding solar panels there are now better tax credits for you. To find the latest information on these credits, go to www.energytaxincentives.org.

Company Energy Efficiency Incentives

In addition to government rebates and programs, check with your electric company to see what incentives and programs they may provide.
